Operation Christmas Child project active in the county

GETTING READY – Operation Christmas Child is in full swing in Copiah County. This event, a part of Samaritans Purse, provides Christmas for those children who would not normally have it . Left to right: Shelli Wishard, Becky Walker, Yuri Lopez, Charlotte Stewart, Tina Lang, and Paul Walker.

Copiah County residents are encouraged to begin collecting Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.  Donors are needed to donate gift-filled shoeboxes for needy children overseas.  The county collection center is at Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church, 3121 Didlake Road, Crystal Springs.  Collection week is November 17 – 24.

Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international Christian relief and evangelism organization headed by Franklin Graham.  Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has delivered gift-filled shoeboxes to more than 113 million children in more than 150 countries.

Recently, shoebox recipient Yuri Lopez visited Crystal Springs to promote the organization.  Lopez is pictured above with Shelli Wishard, SE Regional Director from Atlanta, GA.  Others pictured are local organizers.

In 2014, Operation Christmas Child hopes to collect enough shoebox gifts to reach another 10 million children.  The goal for Copiah County this year is 1800 shoeboxes.  Individuals, families, civic and school groups, and churches are encouraged to get involved.  For more information about how to participate in Operation Christmas Child, call 601-421-9176 or 601-892-3208.  Interested individuals can also visit samaritanspurse.org.
