Youth football, cheerleader camp June 26, Hazlehurst HS
HAZLEHURST—Rep. Greg Holloway will host the Fourth Annual Lawrence Pillers-Roy Lee Hilton Youth Football and Cheerleader Camp on Friday, June 26, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Hazlehurst High School in Hazlehurst.
The free camp is designed for children ages 6-18 who live in Copiah County. Participation is limited to 200. Applications may be picked up and returned to City Hall and the Copiah County Tax Collector’s office in Hazlehurst. The deadline for completed applications is Monday, June 22, 2015. No exceptions.
Pillers, of the San Francisco 49ers, and Hilton, of the Baltimore Colts, are both former residents of Hazlehurst who played on Super Bowl winning teams. They developed the idea to sponsor the camp while they were being honored with a resolution at the Capitol during the 2011 Regular Legislative Session. Representative Holloway requested the resolutions.
Several former National Football League players from the state of Mississippi will volunteer at the camp with Pillers and Hilton to teach the techniques and fundamentals of football. Some of the players who will be on-hand include: Donald Dykes, of the New York Jets; Larry Hardy, of the New Orleans Saints; Thomas Leonard, of the Kansas City Chiefs; Eddie Payton, of the Minnesota Vikings; Vernon Perry, of the Houston Oilers and New Orleans Saints; Leon Seals, of the Buffalo Bills; Jimmy Smith, of the Jacksonville Jaguars; Roscoe Word, of the New York Jets; and Lewis Tillman, of New York Giants.
