Voice of ‘American Heroes’ to speak at Veterans Day event
The annual Copiah County Veterans Day program will be held Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. at the Courthouse in the second floor courtroom. The public is invited to attend and a special invitation is presented to all veterans. The event is sponsored by the Hazlehurst Area Chamber of Commerce.
Jack Rutland, Senior Vice President of State Bank and Trust in Brookhaven will be the guest speaker. Mr. Rutland interviews veterans on a program called “True American Heroes – For The Record” on WRQO 102.1 FM out of Brookhaven every Wednesday at 9 a.m. He is on the board of the Military Museum in Brookhaven and has a passion for veterans. He has interviewed veterans from World War II to Afghanistan.
Peri Akin, President of the Hazlehurst Area Chamber of Commerce will begin the program followed by the presentation of Colors by the Hazlehurst High School JROTC. Judith Brewer, Regent, Cherokee Rose Chapter, NSDAR, will lead in the Pledge of Allegiance. Sharon Kelly of the Copiah County Sheriff’s Department will present the Star Spangled Banner followed by Rev. Anna Fleming-Jones with the invocation. She will also present the benediction
The wreath will be placed at the War Memorial in front of the Courthouse with Twylah Jefferson playing Taps.
