Brown wins runoff for HCSD school board
UPDATE:
Troy Stewart, Jr., incumbent, was defeated by challenger Kevin Brown for the Hazlehurst City School District 5-year term seat on the Board of Trustees. Unofficial vote totals reported by the Circuit Clerk’s office show Brown captured 270 votes to Stewart’s 172 on Tuesday. Affidavit and absentee ballots remain to be counted, and the election will be certified in 10 days.
Stewart was appointed to the board last year by the Board of Aldermen of the City of Hazlehurst after the State Department of Education reactivated the district. The state took control of the district in 2008 after the district failed to pass 36 of 37 criteria to continue operating.
