Mr. and Mrs. Mercier celebrate 70 years
Dottie (age 93) and George (age 98) Mercier recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in Wesson. A surprise reception was given by their friends.
Dorothy (Dottie) Ragland born Dec. 20, 1922 in Elmhurst, IL she attended High School in Elmhurst, and graduated from Vanderbilt.
Timothy George Mercier born May 8, 1917, attended Wesson, Co-Lin and LSU graduating with a Chemical Engineering Degree.
George served in the US Navy during World War II, attaining the rank of LtCdr. As he was being released from service in 1945 he met Dottie; three weeks later George proposed on Thanksgiving Day. Two and a half months later they were married on Feb. 10, 1946 in Elmhurst. George used his Navy Sabre to cut their wedding cake.
Their first job was with Ethyl Corporation in Baton Rouge, LA. Later they transferred to Houston where George retired after 20 years. Upon retirement they returned to Wesson.
They were blessed with five children: George Timothy, Ann Woodson (nee Mercier), Laurie Mercier, Patricia Nicklas (nee Mercier) and Chester R.
