City school board pledges to solve issues in special education audit

Lack of documentation of IEP’s (Individualized Educational Program) for each mentally challenged student plagued the Hazlehurst City School District during the recent audit by the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE), the superintendent said at a called meeting of the Board of Trustees last week.  Unacceptable gaps in communication between teachers and parents were identified as another major shortcoming.  Students are not receiving needed services, the audit indicated.
