Museum has new exhibits
October saw an expansion of major exhibits in the Mississippi Music Museum. One impressive addition is a huge 6′ by 3′ painting by Kym Garraway of Hattiesburg. Kym captured the history of Mississippi music in oils. Another large display includes the costume used by Guy Hovis while on the Laurence Welk show. The Welk show is the longest running one of Television. Other additions include a Hartley Peavey signature guitar, a Midwest 1942 console radio dedicated by Pat and Alice Moreland, a costume owned by Ace Cannon, the Godfather of the Saxophone and Mundell Lowes’s childhood tenor guitar. Mundell is said to be one of the five greatest jazz guitarists. In addition to the new displays, the security system in the depot was updated with cameras and recording equipment. Visitation was up in October with tourists from Germany, Belgium, three groups from Australia, Switzeland, Netherland, Italy Japan and France. 16 states were also represented in visits. Several tour companies have made inquiries about touring the museum.
