This woodcut block print by Robert Cook Jones was recently purchased by the Copiah County Historical and Genealogical Society along with three of his other prints, all of Natchez. This one, of the winding stairs at Windy Hill Manor, appeared in an article in the paper in 1967 promoting Jones’ exhibition in Oxford. It also appeared on the cover of the exhibition brochure.
By Tricia Nelson The McCluney/Jones estate sale held at the Jones house on Pearl Street in September by Cartwright Estate Sales was a huge success; however several items, including multiple pieces of furniture, did not sell. Items which were left after the sale were sent to Eden’s Auctions in Flowood. After a two week online sale, several items sold including four wood block prints by noted local artist Robert Cook Jones. The Rolling Hills Country Club purchased several of his paintings in the 1960s, one of them an award-winning floral. Unfortunately, the Country Club cannot find the paintings. If anyone has information about these works, please contact the historical society at cchgs39059@gmail.com.
