Veterans honored on Veterans Day

HONORED ON VETERANS DAY – This partial group of veterans, along with the JROTC of Hazlehurst High School, posed around the statue honoring fallen veterans at the Copiah County Courthouse Monday, November 11. The Hazlehurst JROTC presented colors inside, followed by Brookhaven Military Museum, board member Jack Rutland, who spoke of some of the veterans he has interviewed over the years for his radio show.

VETERANS from Crystal Springs were honored on Veterans Day with a display of crosses in the park at the corner of Highway 51 and West Georgetown Street. The crosses will remain in place for several weeks. White crosses with American Flags flying at the top were inscribed with the name of the veteran. Veterans honored include Charles D. Johnson, Raymond Lamar, Maurice Cammack, James P. Thaxton. Percy L. Thaxton, Kenneth Nelson, Samuel Maddox, Ben Marshall Brister and Johnie L. Lyon. Crosses will again honor veterans before the next patriotic holiday. The crosses were placed by Copiah Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution. Names for the next patriotic display may be submitted to Copiah Chapter DAR Regent Tricia Nelson 1-601-941-3182.
