Attending were 28 members and five guests. The program “Christmas–A Season of Joy” planned by Bettye Sledge and Susan Sullivan provided a wonderful way for guests to get into the true Christmas spirit. There were several readings, songs sung and instrumental selections. Highlights were the reading of the Christmas Story from the book of Luke in the Bible by Leslie Horton, selections by The Good News Singers, Martha Traxler singing “All is Well” with Ellen Sneddon playing the flute, and sisters Janice Bailey and Margaret Druetta singing “Santa in the Sky with Reindeer,” each wearing a festive sweater. Waudean Jackson closed the program by reading “A Christmas Prayer” written by Robert Louis Stevenson. Club President Leslie Horton conducted a business meeting. Thanks were given to those who put up the music club’s display in Chautauqua Park for Chautauqua Christmas. She announced practices start Jan. 5 for A Grand Night, and handbook corrections were noted. Billie Davis introduced the Together We Sing song “In the Bleak Midwinter.” The words were penned by Christina Rosetti and the music written by Gustav Holst. Bettye Sledge, with the help of Jim Kitchens and club members, selected a book to be given to J. T. Biggs, Jr. Memorial Library in memory of Edith Kitchens, a longtime member of MacDowell Music Club of Crystal Springs. Opportunities for attending Christmas music programs were shared by various club members.
