Airport to lease hangar spaces, purchase encroaching timberland

Copiah Supervisors agreed to lease land for private construction of hangars at the Copiah County Airport at their meeting January 10. The contract will provide for compatibility with existing buildings, annual ground rental on a square footage basis, and reversion of ownership to Copiah County at the end of the lease period. The finalization of the plan is subject to review by a county attorney. Further airport plans for the year are securing over 20 acres of land north of the runway to deal with encroachment of trees. The Federal Aviation Agency is expected to pay 90 percent of the cost at the close of the project with the state and county paying the balance. Claims for December totaling $1,871,961 were approved as supervisors adjourned for January to meet again on February 3 at 9 a.m.
