Copiah School Board begins next year’s personnel selection

The Copiah County School Board began its personnel selection for the 2020-2021 term at their meeting Feb. 3. Nine resignations/retirements were accepted, and five new certified teachers were employed along with one non-certified employee and four substitutes. Request for leave was granted for four present staff members. One retiree part-time staff member was employed as needed. Travel requests were approved for nine different events for staff members and students. Receipts for December totaled $11,145,845 with expenses totaling $12,258,320. Recommended principals/staff and certified personnel renewals for 2020-2021 were approved. Salary schedule and schedule of salary computation were approved subject to action that may be taken by the Mississippi Legislature. Reimbursement for mileage was set at 57¢ effective January 1. Change order for Mid-Western Commercial Roofers, Inc. for projects at Copiah County Schools was adopted, reducing by $10,000 the allotted contingencies not used. Advertisement for federal proposals of educational services was approved. Academic update for Crystal Springs Middle School was presented to the board. Updating of 16th Section matters continued. The board was informed of the Torch Award to be presented to Superintendent Clopton at a luncheon on Feb. 19. After approval of loans, transfers, and claims, the board adjourned until March 2 at 3 p.m.
