Clara Ruth Metcalfe

Clara Ruth Metcalfe went to be with the Lord on Sept. 24, 2024. Clara was born on July 25, 1935, to David Lamar and Addie Ruth McMahon in Drew. She grew up in Greenwood and later moved to Jackson, where she would meet the love of her life, William (Bill) Metcalfe. Clara worked as a bookkeeper for many years for Lewis Wilson’s and Channel 16 before retiring to country living in Crystal Springs. She enjoyed going to church, traveling the world, tending to her flowers, and time spent with her family. Her presence on this Earth will be greatly missed, but to know she woke up in heaven this morning is the hope we have to look forward to.
We are eternally grateful to the kind hearts of those who sat with and cared for our precious mother and grandmother during her final days here on Earth – Cheyenne, Ms. Rose, and Janie from “You Are My Sunshine” and the wonderful staff from Deaconess Hospice.
Clara was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, William Metcalfe, and her son, Randy Dalton.
Survivors include her children, Debbie Harris (Garland), Charlene Dunaway (John), Frank Metcalfe (Rita), and John Metcalfe; grandchildren, Ashley McPherson (Dusty), Angie Cody (Nathan), Jonathan Dalton, James Guice (Melissa), Will Guice, Leigh Dewsnap, Chris Metcalfe (Ashley), Tracy Metcalfe, Bill Metcalfe, Thomas Metcalfe (Amber), and Danielle Brown; 31 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 26, with a service to follow at 2 at Stringer Funeral Home in Crystal Springs. Graveside to follow in Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church Cemetery.
