Evelyn Young Schruff

Evelyn Young Schruff, 63, passed away on Feb. 27, 2026.
Evelyn was born in Poplarville to Gary Wilson Young and Lily Louise Guess (Young). She was a woman of extraordinary strength. Throughout her life, she fought with courage, grit, and an unwavering will to move forward. Even on her most challenging days, she chose perseverance. Her resilience inspired everyone around her.
Her life was rooted in faith and serving others, both in her family and in the community. She had a passion for people and found joy in encouraging others. That spirit was reflected in her leadership at her family-owned restaurant where she led operations across three locations. Her love for others was evident to everyone she met, but her family witnessed that love in its fullest measure. She was married to her husband, Larry, for nearly 44 years. She nurtured her family, stood beside them in times of need, and loved them with a selfless love leaving a legacy that will continue for generations to come.
She was preceded in death by her father, Gary Young; mother, Louise Young Guess; brother, Danny Brent; and granddaughter, Evie Schruff.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Schruff, of Hazlehurst; son, Trey Schruff (Ashlynn), of Thompson’s Station; grandson, Tate Schruff; brothers, Dale Young (Tammy), of Crystal Springs, and Gerald Young (Robbie), of Florence; and sisters, Sherry Pollock (Joe), of Centerville, and Sabrina Martin (Tommy), of Madison.
A visitation for family and friends will begin at noon on Tuesday, March 3, with a memorial at 2 p.m. at Stringer Funeral Home in Crystal Springs. A graveside service will follow at Gallman Cemetery in Gallman.
