Harold Wayne Hamilton
Harold Wayne Hamilton, 78, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, dedication, and love for his family and community.
Born on July 28, 1947, to Shelton and Sarah Carolyn Owens Hamilton, of Hazlehurst, Harold lived a life defined by hard work, integrity, and service to others. He graduated from Hazlehurst High School before continuing his education at Copiah-Lincoln Community College and later from the University of Southern Mississippi. Harold served in the Army National Guard, where he was a medical specialist and received the Mississippi Longevity Award. He devoted 41 years of his professional career as an accountant with Sanderson Farms, where he was respected for his unwavering work ethic and commitment.
Harold was a faithful Christian and a devoted member of Shady Grove Baptist Church and Smyrna Baptist Church throughout his life. His faith was the foundation of the kindness, humility, and generosity he showed to everyone he met.
Outside of work, Harold found joy in the simple things. He was an avid sports enthusiast who loved watching and talking about all things sports. He enjoyed the outdoors and took great pride in maintaining one of the most immaculate yards around–a reflection of his attention to detail and dedication. During the years he was raising his son, Harold generously gave his time to the youth of the Hazlehurst community as a Little League baseball coach and assistant scoutmaster, helping shape the lives of many young people through leadership, encouragement, and example.
Harold was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marjorie Hamilton; his mother, Carolyn Hamilton; his father, Shelton Hamilton; his nephew, David Hamilton; and his stepdaughter, Renee Tompkins.
He is lovingly remembered by his son, Garrett Cannon Jr. (Elizabeth); his treasured grandson, Hunter Cannon, who brought him immeasurable joy; his dear friend, Tommie Jean Coleman; his sister, Donna Ruth Miller; his brother, David Hamilton; his stepsons, Garrett Cannon Sr. and Don Cannon; and his nephew, Joey Hamilton. He also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, former coworkers, and countless lives touched by his kindness and quiet strength.
Harold will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, faithful friend, dedicated professional, and respected member of his community. His legacy of service, faith, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing that he is reunited with his loved ones and at peace in the presence of the Lord.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, at Stringer Family Funeral Home in Hazlehurst. The service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 10, at Stringer Family Chapel, with burial at Hazlehurst Cemetery.
