Perry Brandt Hood

Perry Brandt Hood, 18, of Hazlehurst, died December 13, 2007 in Morton.  Visitation will be 5pm-9pm Saturday and 12:30pm-1:30pm Sunday at Stringer Family Funeral Home in Hazlehurst.  Services will be 2pm Sunday at First Baptist Church with burial in Hazlehurst Cemetery.

 

Brandt graduated in 2007 from Wesson High School where he excelled in basketball as he was chosen Most Offensive Player his junior year. 

 

After his Senior year season, Brandt was awarded The Most Offensive Player, The Season MVP, 2006 Wesson Invitational MVP, 1st Team All-District Region 6-2A, and a very special award, Region 6-2A Player of the Year where he received the unanimous votes of his opposing coaches.  He was also recognized as a member of the All-Area Dream Team in boys basketball by the Daily Leader.

 

Brandt also excelled in High School Baseball as he received the Team Leadership Award his junior year and the Team’s Most Dedicated Player Award his Senior Year. 

 

Also in his Senior Year, Brandt was elected Most Handsome for Wesson High School. 

 

Upon graduation from Wesson High, Brandt realized one of his lifetime dreams and accepted a full scholarship to play college basketball at Copiah-Lincoln Community College, where he had just completed his first semester. 

 

One of Brandt’s favorite quotes is “Why wouldn’t I want the last shot when I know that I’ve already made it?” 

 

Brandt was a natural leader and led by example.  He leaves behind a host of family members, friends, coaches, teammates and others that truly looked up to him and loved him.  Brandt will be sorely missed

 

Brandt was preceded in death by his uncle, Rodney Norman and best friend, Preston Berry.

 

He is survived by parents, Perry and Linda Hood of Hazlehurst; brother, Brandon Hood of Hazlehurst, sister, Chelsey Hood of Hazlehurst; girlfriend, Kelli Herrington of Brookhaven; paternal grandparents, Carroll and Elizabeth Hood of Hazlehurst; and maternal grandparents, Dudley and June Norman of Hazlehurst.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hazlehurst United Methodist Church Building Fund.
