Chester Bryant

Chester Bryant, 85, of Crystal Springs,  Thursday, August 11, 2011 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland.  

Visitation will be Friday, August 12, 2011 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Harmony Baptist Church in Crystal Springs.  Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the church with burial in Harmony Cemetery.  Stringer Family Funeral Services in Crystal Springs is handling arrangements.

Mr. Bryant was born on March 5, 1926 in Smith County.  He was preceded in death by his wife of over 62 years, Mary Catherine Bryant, parents Mr. and Mrs. Miley Bryant, brother, Frank Bryant, sisters, Vera Thompson, Mamie Gerkin and Vondell Clements. 

Mr. Bryant was a faithful member of Harmony Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.  He and his wife enjoyed working with the Hostess Committee of the church for many years, and he continued to serve on that committee after his wife’s death as long as his health allowed.  He was a veteran of the Korean War and was retired from Knox Glass Company.  Mr. Bryant was an avid fisherman and deer hunter and loved sharing “stories” with his many friends.

He is survived by two sisters, Velma Touchstone of Crystal Springs, Hattie Davis of Harrisville, 11 nieces, 9 nephews, a number of great and great, great nieces and nephews, and a host of extended family and friends.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson.
