Rachel Barker Hill

Rachel Barker Hill, 80, of Cullman, Alabama died Saturday, April 13, 2013 at her daughter’s home in Dallas, Texas.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Rachel was born on October 31, 1932, in Dentville, the eighth of ten children of Robert Barker and Elma Sullivan Barker.

She grew up in Dentville and continued to visit and love the family farm there her entire life. She graduated from Hazlehurst High in 1950, Copiah-Lincoln Junior College in 1952 and the University of Southern Mississippi in 1954. She taught school for over forty one years in the states of Mississippi, Georgia, North Carolina and Alabama. She moved with her family from Siler City, North Carolina to Cullman in 1971 and taught at West Point Elementary for the last 25 years of her career.

She was preceded in death by her parents, by her brothers, Donald and Robert Barker, and by her sisters, Ann Barker and Katherine Hatfield.

Survivors include:  husband of over 56 years, Roy Hill of Cullman, whom she met at Copiah-Lincoln Junior College in 1951; children, Gina Hill Christoff and her husband Carl of Dallas, TX, Al Barker Hill and his wife Pam of Atlanta, GA , and Andrew Roy Hill of Dallas, TX;  grandchildren, Caroline and David Christoff of Dallas, and Elizabeth, Matthew and Brian Hill of Atlanta; sisters, Reba Murphey of Vidor, TX, Dorothy Banes of Jackson, and Mary Frances Taylor of Sandy Springs, SC; and brothers, Glen Barker of Hazlehurst and Walter Barker of Vicksburg.
