David Wallace Delaney
David Wallace Delaney, 64, of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 5, 2013 – 10:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church of Prairie Grove, with the Rev. Matthew Johnson officiating. Interment will be in the Prairie Grove Cemetery.
He was born April 27, 1949 in Hazlehurst, the son of Nelvie Elzy and Bessie Wallace Delaney.
David was raised in a close-knit family and enjoyed playing all sports growing up. In fact, he was an avid sportsman who also loved to hunt, fish, and be in the woods at any time with family and friends. David graduated from Hazlehurst High School and then went on to Copiah-Lincoln Junior College where he played college basketball. He then transferred to the University of Southern Mississippi where he graduated with a B.S. in Education and later earned a M.Ed +30 in Education. He had a passion for reading and was a lifelong learner who encouraged this trait in all he met. He worked as a teacher and coach in Mississippi and Louisiana for 14 years. He then became a principal and later, the Director of Federal Programs for the Tensas Parish School District in St. Joseph, Louisiana. He was always community minded and served as an Alderman for the Town of Newellton for 10 years, coached his daughters in T-ball as well as high school softball, and was very involved in his church especially with the youth. After retirement, he moved to Prairie Grove, Arkansas to be near family where he spent his time with grandkids, family and friends, hunting, fishing, attending ballgames, volunteering at church, and making beautiful memories.
He was preceded in death by his father, Nelvie Elzy Delaney and two sisters: Lucille Delaney Stegall and Fannie Delaney.
Survivors include wife, Sylvia Bardwell Delaney; daughters: Elizabeth Delaney Farmer and husband Erin of Fayetteville, and Suzanne Delaney Krumpelman and husband Bernie of Marshall, Missouri; brother: Kenneth Delaney and his mother Bessie Wallace Delaney both of Crystal Springs; grandchildren: Anthony and Therese Krumpelman, and Abby Farmer
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Prairie Grove First United Methodist Church Pavilion Fund.
