Amos Watkins, Sr.

Amos Watkins, Sr., 92, of Crystal Springs, died Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. 

Visitation will be 1pm-3pm Saturday at Springs of Praise.  Services will be 3pm Saturday at Springs of Praise with interment at Crystal Springs Cemetery.  Stringer Family Funeral Services in Crystal Springs is handling arrangements.

 
Mr. Watkins was a native of Kemper County.  He moved to Crystal Springs with his family during early childhood.  He graduated from Gallman High School where he played basketball.  He attended Hinds and Copiah Lincoln Jr. Colleges.  Mr. Watkins served in the US Navy for 6 years during WWII.  Following services in the Navy he returned to Crystal Springs.
 
Mr. Watkins was in the plumbing business and later was in the furniture and appliances business for 50 years.  Mr. Watkins was recognized by the Crystal Springs Chamber of Commerce for serving over 50 years in Business in Crystal Springs.  He was a lifetime active member and deacon of the Springs of Praise Church of Crystal Springs.
 
He was preceded in death a daughter, Amy Watkins McMillan and his first wife, Mayme Jackson Watkins.
 
He is survived by wife, Glenna Gaddy Watkins of Crystal Springs; sons, Amos Stephens Watkins, Jr. of Quitman and Clinton Wilson Watkins of Brentwood, TN; daughter, Bonnie Watkins May of Jonesboro, Arkansas; three step-son, Jerry, Bruce and Keith Gaddy all of Crystal Springs; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.
