Ruth Evelyn Rucker Thomas, 89, died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Crystal Springs, Ms., from complications related to congestive heart failure, on Saturday 13, 2014. She was surrounded by her family and caregivers. She was predeceased in 1981 by her husband, William Oscar Thomas, a veteran of WW11. Visitation will be at the Crystal Springs United Methodist Church on Wednesday, September 17, from 9:00 until the service at 11:00. Burial will be in the Crystal Springs City Cemetery following the service. Ruth was born on October 31, 1924, in Carroll County, Ms. She was the oldest child born to James Claude Rucker and Willie Kay Parkerson Rucker. She was a graduate of Central High School, after spending most of her earlier school years living in Durant, Ms. She attended Belhaven College . She was an active member of Crystal Springs United Methodist Church for 60 years, serving faithfully in UMW and other areas of the church. She was also a member of the Order of First Families of Mississippi, the Crystal Springs Floral Club, and was a tour director for 20 years with Jackson Tour and Travel. She enjoyed history, touring many countries and meeting people. Survivors include two daughters, Kay Thomas (Bill) Pevey of Crystal Springs, Susan Thomas Ware of Brandon, son Bill Thomas of Crystal Springs, four grandchildren: Sarah Ruth Caroline (Dustin) Jernigan of Black Mountain, NC, Thomas Davis (Anna) Ware of Salt Lake City, Utah, William Carter (Kim) Pevey of Clinton and Dr. Thomas Lonn DeMoss of Crystal Springs. Also, five great-grandchildren, brother Travis (Carolyn) Rucker of Brandon, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by brothers James Rucker of Vicksburg and Winford Rucker of Madison.
