Mr. Louis Alton “Jiggs” Ashley
Jiggs Ashley, 84, of Hazlehurst, passed away on September 15, 2014, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS.
Services are Thursday, 11:00am at Bethel Baptist Church in Hazlehurst with interment at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 5:00-8:00pm at Bethel as well and will resume on Thursday morning from 10:00 until service time.
He was born on January 1, 1930 to George Frank Ashley and Julia Ella Beasley Ashley.
Mr. Ashley attended Bethel Baptist Church and was a member of First Baptist Church in Hazlehurst where he also served as a deacon. He was a veteran of the Korean War where he served with the United States Army and received three Bronze Stars. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Mr. Jiggs also was a member of the VFW.
Preceding him in death was his parents, his son, Louis Alton “Butch” Ashley, Jr.; mother of his children, “Ms.” Irene Laiche Ashley; brothers, Emmett Edwin Ashley, J. M. Ashley and Donald Frank Ashley.
Survivors include his daughters, Wanda Greer with husband Wayne and Lynn Lewis with husband Eugene; one brother, Greer Ashley with wife Juanita. He was also survived by 7 grandchildren, Aimee Cheek Moore, Ashley Cheek Livingston, Jonathan E. Lewis with wife Melissa, Tracy Watson with husband Rodney, Donnie Greer with wife Nicole, Nathan Greer with wife Meghan and Crystal Ashley. He also has 16 great-grandchildren.
