Neil Honan

Neil John Honan of Hazlehurst died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016.

Services will be held at Stringer Funeral  Home on Tuesday, February 9, 2016;  visitation 1:00 p.m, and memorial service at 2:00 p.m.

Neil was born March 15, 1940  in Brooklyn, New York  and moved at an early age to New Jersey. Upon graduating from high school he entered the United States Coast Guard where he served for 4 years.

Immediately thereafter, he attended the University of Southern Mississippi where he met George Ann, his future wife.  They were married for 52 years. He was in Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity at Southern where he made life long friends.

The majority of Neil’s career was in construction management.  After retiring, he returned to work in economic development. Over the years he was involved in many organizations including the Advisory Board for the Mississippi State University School of Architecture and the Advisory Board for the University of Southern Mississippi School of Business.  Always active in his children’s lives, he was involved with Pop Warner football and Little League.

Neil was a Catholic and attended St. Martin Catholic Church in Hazlehurst and St. John’s Catholic Church in Crystal Springs.

Neil was preceded in death by his father and mother Jacques Honan and  Catherine Fitzpatrick Honan of Totowa, New Jersey.

He is survived by his wife, George Ann Davis Honan;his son, Kevin Paul Honan (Jessica) of Canton, MS; his daughter Kelly Rebecca Honan Pruden of Solana Beach, CA; three grandsons, Davis Pruden, Alec Honan and Eli Honan; and one grandaughter Katie Pruden.  He is also survived by two brothers, Jack Honan (Marie) of Hackettstown, NJ and Daniel Honan of Greenville, SC; and two nephews, Brian Honan and Scott Honan.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers , donations be made to Blaire E. Batson Hospital for children,St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or  to Antioch  Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
