Arthur Press Pendleton Jr.

Arthur Press Pendleton Jr. was a devoted husband, a loving father and brother, a kind grandfather, and a trusting friend. Arthur Press was born Feb. 24, 1948, in Hazlehurst, Copiah County, to the late Arthur Press Sr. and Bessie Mae Reese Pendleton.

Arthur Press, affectionately known as “Peabody” to his family, friends, and co-workers, transitioned from his earthly life on Sept. 16, 2024, at his home.

Arthur Press received his formal education at St. Morris School and the Hazlehurst City School District. He was a member of Parrish High School Class of 1969. Arthur Press was a fun-loving, hardworking man, who had a zeal for life.  Arthur loved talking and making others laugh. Arthur’s work history included: Hazlehurst City School District, former bus driver over 50 years, maintenance, food service, and director of transportation; former employee at Magnetex, Mississippi Job Corps Center, Heard Furniture Company, the road side park (Wesson); Copiah County School District, where he retired as a bus driver (12 years); and at the House of Peoples Inc., where he served as the licensee-in-charge and funeral director with over 38 years of immaculate service. He was the best funeral director in Copiah and surrounding counties.

He was a lifelong member of Mercy Seat A.M.E Church. He served as pro tem of the Steward Board, Trustee Board, choir member, painter, and landscaper.

Arhur Press was preceded in death by one son, Johnny Dwayne Pendleton; grandson, Carsen Christopher Pendleton; sisters and brothers, Rosie Mae Pickett, Eunice Shannon, Mary Anna Harris, Bessie Ree Jones, Julius Johnson, Luther Johnson, Walter Lee Pendleton, Robert Lee Pendleton, Arthur Pendleton, and Robert Pendleton.

Arthur Press married Cassandra Coleman in June 2008, and gained a daughter and grandson, Sonya and Corey. Arthur Press’ love, legacy, humor, and memories will forever be cherished by his devoted wife, Cassandra Pendleton; nine children, Vera Johnson, Arthur (Latonyia) Pendleton III, Shirley Pendleton, Gary (Josephine) Pendleton, Christopher (NeNe) Pendleton, Laquita (Michael) Chandler, Terriyel Pendleton, Artquez Pendleton, and Sonya (Robert) Curtis; 22 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; sisters, Brenda Ishman and Julie Mae Pendleton; and his House of Peoples family.
