Scott Dear

Scott Dear, 61, passed away on May 9, 2026, at St. Dominic’s Hospital. He was born on Nov. 17, 1964, in Hazlehurst.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, at New Zion Baptist Church, followed by a memorial service at 11. Interment will be at Crystal Springs Cemetery.

Scott worked as a truck driver for Bailey Oil. He loved hunting, fishing, and anything outdoors. He also enjoyed welding and had a special love for animals.

He was preceded in death by his father, J.R. Dear, of Crystal Springs; mother, Billie Neal Dear, of Crystal Springs; brothers, Johnny Dear, of Crystal Springs, and Bob Dear, of Hopewell.

He is survived by his niece, Rená Brent and husband Garland, and their daughter, Ella Brent; his nephew, Kevin Dear and wife Natasha, and their children, Tyler Dear, (Logan), and Tristan Dear; and his nephew, Chase Dear.

Even in passing, his generous spirit continued through the gift of organ and tissue donation. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Copiah Animal Shelter or to the mission fund at New Zion Baptist Church.
