William Furr

William “Sonny” Furr was called to be with friends on July 6, 2026. He was born on May 9, 1935, in Crystal Springs to Louis Furr and Thelma O’Niel.

After graduating from Crystal Springs High School, he joined the U.S. Navy. He was assigned to the print shop on the USS Boxer. He then moved to New Orleans, where he met the love of his life, Janet Marine, his wife of 62 years.

Sonny cherished his time and memories with the Class of 1953 so much that he returned to Crystal Springs in 2007, after retiring from sales.

Janet preceded him in death in 2023. He is survived by his daughters, Heidi Pitre and Laura Furr. His three grandchildren, Addie Pitre, Alix Pitre, and Riley Furr, will always remember him as “Paw.”

A memorial service will be held on Aug. 1 at Stringer Funeral Home in Crystal Springs. Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m., with a celebration of life to follow. Please also join us for post-service at his home to share stories and memories. His family is grateful for the kindness and support shown during this time.
