J. C. Rhymes

J. C. Rhymes, 84, of Hazlehurst, died Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at Hardy Wilson Memorial Hospital. 

Visitation will be 11am-1pm Friday at Stringer Family Funeral Home in Hazlehurst.  Services will be 1pm Friday at Stringer Family Chapel with burial at Hazlehurst Cemetery.

 
Mr. Rhymes joined the Navy in 1951 and served during the Korean War on the USS Curtiss where he participated in the hydrogen bomb testing at Bikini Atoll and Eniwetok Islands.
 
Mr. Rhymes was a deacon at Antioch Baptist Church.  He served as board president of the Copiah Water Association for 20 years.  He was past president of the Hazlehurst Lions Club and member of the Copiah County Baptist Choir and the Brookmont Strings Plus.  He enjoyed gardening, cooking, and woodworking.  Mr. Rhymes worked for W. R. Grace for over 15 years before establishing his poultry farm. 
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carey and Zola Gordon Rhymes, and sister, Bobbie Rhymes.
 
He is survived by his wife, Celeste Cummins Rhymes; daughters, Retha Rhymes Fedele (Jimmy) of Brandon and Lisa Rhymes Brown (Donnie) of Brandon; grandchildren, Courtney Boutwell (Kevin), Drew Smith (Kerri), Cara Pardue (Matt), and Leighton Brown; and great grandchildren, Kailyn Smith, Randale McGuire, Miles Boutwell, Beau McGuire, and Molly Boutwell.
 
 
Memorials may be made to the Baptist Children’s Village.
