Mr. Roland was born in Crystal Springs and was raised by Dave and Kate Roland. George’s dad taught him to farm and that is what he did for most of his life. When the US became engaged in the Korean War George signed up. Due to an injury during training he was not allowed to actually participate in battle. He stayed on American soil and trained other men in communications to climb telephone poles and hang telephone lines. Once he returned home he married Catherine Bennett in 1954 and they had a son, David, in 1955. They built a home on Bennett Rd. in 1964. George continued to farm and also became a maintenance man for several different companies until he retired. He then enjoyed more time to hunt, fish, and breed bird dogs. His wife Catherine fell ill and passed in December of 2009. He continued to live in their shared home where he passed in his sleep on December 6th.
He is survived by his son, William David Roland of Crystal Springs; and grandchildren, William David Roland II, Christopher Bradly Roland, Brittany Roland, Stephanie Roland, Bryson Roland, and Sarah Kate Roland.
