Support community events with your presence

Over the next couple of weekends area residents will have a chance to attend free events that are designed to build community spirit and allow school children one more blow out before school begins in early August.  In these times, free entertainment events are priceless.

This Saturday, from 10 a.m. to noon, the police and fire departments of Hazlehurst are hosting Public Safety Day at the high school.

Next Saturday, August 1, is the Back to School Jamboree sponsored by the Halehurst PTA/PAC. Activities will begin at 10 a.m and run until 2 p.m. at the football field.

Accompanying news articles on the front page of this issue explain the details.

In the coming weeks, other such events will be different in presentation, but share many of the same goals.  On Saturday, September 5, the annual Gospel Festival is at the Courthouse Square.  Music, games and fun stuff for children and youth, plus many other great things for adults.

On Saturday, October 3, downtown Hazlehurst will come alive with music of all kinds, a classic car show, a kids’ zone, art and craft vendors, art contests for children and adults and food vending by the volunteer fire departments and more at the first annual Rockin’ Railroad Festival presented by the Hazlehurst Chamber of Commerce.  Hazlehurst native and Loftin Creek Records recording artist Pat Roper will headline the day’s entertainment.

Again, both the Gospel Fest and Rockin’ Railroad Festival are free.

The sponsors for these events understand the importance of building and nurturing a spirit of community in our town.  Please make every effort to join in the fun, visit with your neighbors and show these sponsors that Hazlehurst and Copiah County appreciate their efforts.
