Get out, visit and live it up

Our calendar of events is seeing the effect of school starting back this week–it’s full for the coming weekend!
A couple of the items stand out.  Firstly, Georgetown is hosting the first-ever community festival, and it’s family-friendly.  Good food, good music, amusements–all the normal festival fare will be there.  Attend and enjoy  a visit to the historical town on the Pearl River.  The festival is all day Saturday.
Secondly, Allen VFD is hosting an open house on the other side of the county on Saturday afternoon.  View it as a good chance to meet and to show appreciation for some of Copiah County’s frontline volunteer emergency personnel.  They might be saving your life one day.
Kicking it all off is a Back-to-School 5K run/walk in Hazlehurst at 8 a.m. on Saturday.  The event is for the entire community and is a fun way to exercise and visit with friends.
Finally, the Copiah Animal Shelter Gala, which is one of the non-profit’s largest fundraisers of the year, is at 6:30 at the Joe L. Johnson Saferoom n Gallman on Saturday night.
While you’re out and about, grab a bite to eat at one of our area restaurants.  Fill up with gas at a local service station and, while you are inside, purchase a newspaper for your neighbor.  Support your local for-profits, too.
